In May 2018 Dave Morell was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Detected in a CT scan, surgery was not an option and Dave was referred to an Oncologist at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.
She provided four options, including an immunotherapy clinical trial which Dave and his family decided to pursue.
“It is important to be a participant and not a bystander in your own treatment”, he says.
“In 32 months, I had bloodwork 66 times, 66 physician/specialist consultations, 19 different scans, numerous x-rays, three ER visits, two hospital stays and 59 cancer treatments. I truly can’t say enough about my healthcare team, and I am simply amazed at the work that has been done and continues to be done by the Chalmers Foundation. Almost every part of my journey was marked with equipment provided by the Foundation, from the initial CT scan to the dual head gamma camera”.
It is now four years later and Dave continues to enjoy life and live each day to the fullest. He credits the immunotherapy clinical trial which was available to him at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
